MECC ready to open its doors

THE Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC) will open its doors to the public on Monday (July 20).

The popular entertainment venue is increasing its hygiene practices in preparation for the reopening and have recently purchased a new fogging machine which will be used to disinfect the facility after each event.

All events held at the MECC will follow the Queensland Government’s stage three COVID guidelines and the approved Queensland Live Performance, Venues/Theatres COVID Safe Industry Plan.

As part of the new guidelines, residents are encouraged to purchase tickets online or via phone wherever possible and contact details will be collected for each individual attending the MECC.

Due to social distancing requirements, seating will be allocated based on the size of the group, time of booking and venue configuration. Attendees cannot choose or move seats and they must purchase tickets with the group they want to sit with in one transaction.

To alleviate crowding, the MECC will have allocated entrances and door numbers that attendees must use to enter the facility. They will also open 1.5 hours prior to an event to allow for staggered ingress.

Individual platters will continue to be available to pre-order and collect before an event and they can be eaten in designated areas. Two additional bars will also be open, which are located on the Mezzanine levels at door two and four.

Residents who are unwell are also being asked to refrain from attending events at the MECC.
