Mackay vocal students to perform with Opera Australia

Local Mackay vocal students will experience the opportunity of a lifetime this July, when they perform alongside some of the country’s finest professional opera singers and musicians at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre.

Opera Australia is Australia’s national opera company, presenting more than 700 performances and playing to more than half a million people each year. This year they will be touring a stunning new production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, directed by critically acclaimed John Bell.

Musical Director for Mackay’s Youth Choir A-Choir’d Pitch, and vocal teacher Jennifer Bee will take on the role of Choir Leader to prepare Mackay students for their performance.

The students will then perform with the cast of internationally acclaimed opera singers at the MECC in July, as part of the Festival of Arts.

As the students begin rehearsals and preparation for this incredible opportunity, Mrs Bee will attend an intensive training course in Brisbane this April.

“This is such a fantastic opportunity for my vocal students. I am looking forward to working with the Opera Australia Team in April and hearing the result of our hard work on stage at the MECC on Saturday 27 July” Mrs Bee said.

Opera Australia will delight Mackay audiences with the original Italian version of Madama Butterfly, with English surtitles.

“Opera Australia will tour with a surtitle screen which will be displayed on stage with the English translation. We believe that this will greatly enhance the audience’s appreciation and enjoyment of the Opera” Penny McCabe from Opera Australia said.
