MECC to host an ice skating session that will cater to all abilities

MACKAY Regional Council and the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre together with the Mackay PCYC are excited to host an all abilities ice skating session this month.

Community Services and Facilities portfolio councillor Karen May said anyone with a disability is invited to attend this private session.

“This exclusive opportunity will allow us to cater for all needs including wheelchairs, and will feature adjusted lighting and sound conditions and a chill out zone in the foyer away from people and noise for those seeking a quieter place,” Cr May said.

“It’s great that we have been able to work together with all parties and ensure this can happen so that all residents in the region have the opportunity to experience Ice City.”

PCYC volunteer Bec Nicoll said PCYC have been very active during the last 12 months in providing activities for people with disabilities.

“It’s important to us that we continue to provide fun social opportunities to all people in our local area as PCYC recognises that people with disabilities are a very valuable part of our community,” Ms Nicoll said.

“This wonderful event has been made possible with MECC assisting with arrangements and council providing an ‘In-Kind Grant to cover the rink hire costs,” she said.

“PCYC is very pleased to invite anyone with any disability to attend, however, due to the limited amount of people allowed on the ice there is only 200 tickets available and almost half of these have already been reserved, so act quick.”

Due to the limited tickets and the exclusivity of this event, Ms Nicoll will only be taking individual phone bookings, where interested people will then be able to find out additional information such as the session date and time.

To avoid disappointment and to secure your spot, phone Ms Nicoll today on 4959 5173 to register your interest.

Cr May said to date nearly 10,000 people have had a go at ice skating since the doors opened last month on Boxing Day.

Ice skating can be booked online and has sessions operating daily until it finishes on Sunday, January 22 – don’t miss out!
